PLEASE NOTE We no longer rent cars in S. JORGE ISLAND. Too many customers have complained about the service (or lack thereof), pricing practices, and unreliable nature of its management. We apologize for the inconvenience. The island is small enough to taxi around. Also hitchhiking is done extensively by the locals and very safe. Check with Casa do Antonio when you get to Velas for information on how to get around.
About extra fees
Rent a car companies in the Azores usually don't include on their price quotations the circulation tax (mandatory) and basic CDW coverage. Some will also not include IVA tax of 15%. The cost of CDW + circulation tax starts at 11.67 euros per day. Azores.com pricing includes basic CDW, IVA and the circulation tax. Always ask your travel agent if CDW (not to be confused with super-CDW), IVA and circulation taxes are included in the price.
Airport Tax: Please be aware that all airports in Azores charge a tax for picking up the car at the airport. The tax is not paid to us. It is paid directly to the rental car company at the counter at the time of pick-up. We have noted the tax amount at the bottom of the rates tables.
