The Azores and the ocean are inseparable including in sports. Horta (Faial) with its marina, is the meeting place of yachtsmen from all over the world. The ports of Ponta Delgada (Sao Miguel), Angra do Heroismo (Terceira), and Santa Cruz (Flores), form the corners of a quadrilateral that takes in the whole archipelago.

Underwater observation offers a treasure chest of wonders on every island. Sao Miguel, Terceira and Faial have supporting facilities for this sport.

The islands' coast provides the ideal place for sailing, windsurfing, rowing and surfing.

Big game fishing is thrilling off the islands, with several species of shark, swordfish, oceanic bonito and tunna which have brought some record-breaking catches. Boats that are specially equipped for this activity operate regularly from Ponta Delgada (Sao Miguel) and Horta (Faial). Fishing from rocks is practiced in every island and fresh water fishing can be found in the island of Sao Miguel and Flores.

For those who prefer dry land, Sao Miguel and Terceira can offer golf and also on Faial, tennis.

Invigorating walks through green and flower covered countryside, appreciating views of hills and dales, cliffs and seascapes, lagoons and islets, are other attractions of the Azores for active holidays.
