The Azores are well regarded for its dense areas of larissilva, relics of the temperate hygrophyte forest that covered the archipelago before it was inhabited, which can still be found in many islands. Among the many exotic species introduced to the Azores Islands, special mention should be made to the Japanese cedar, the araucaria, hydrangeas and azaleas.
