The folk music of Pico maintains the melodic lines common to the whole of the Azores, but adds to them a number of harmony-rich modes or songs such as the caracol, larum-tum-tum, majericão and rema, which are danced on feast days. The chamarrita, present in almost all the islands, reaches its maximum vivacity in Pico. The love of music of the inhabitants of Pico is also reflected in the dozens of bands, some over a century old, that animate the popular festivities with their repertoires.
