Sao Miguel is one of the most beautiful islands to explore by foot. This program is tailored to both nature lovers and walkers. A route/guide book with detailed information on paths and routes is provided upon arrival as part of the documentation kit. Transportation transfers to/from walks are included in the program. There is no accompanying guide and all walks are between 2.5 and 4.5 hours in duration. The degree of difficulty is from easy to challenging. Program includes bed and breakfast. Groups are usually small and there's a minimum of two people per program. A local walking guide can be provided for an additional fee.
Tour Description
Day 1
Transfer to Hotel Terra Nostra Garden in the valley of Furnas.
Day 2
Terra Nostra Garden- There are no transfers required on the first day for walking to/from Furnas lake, as the itinerary for this walk starts and ends at the hotel in Furnas.
Day 3
Terra Nostra Garden- Gaiteira's walk starts in Ponta Garça and goes along an old donkey trail always along the coast line untill reaching the fishing village of Ribeira Quente, where you have restaurants and a nice beach. Transfer by taxi to the hotel or the walk can continue till the hotel in Furnas.
Day 4
Terra Nostra Garden- You can choose walks. One starting in Agua Retorta through pastures and descending to Faial da Terra through the "pitosporum forest". Or you can have a break and then go to Salto do Prego along a path through an old village to a beautiful waterfall (2,3Km). It ends at Faial da Terra. Return transfer to the Hotel.
Day 5
Hotel Vila Nova- Transfer by taxi to Hotel Vila Nova or similar in Ponta Delgada. During the trip you will visit the most beautiful viewpoints of the north coast and a tea plantation, unique in Europe.
Day 6
Hotel Vila Nova- Walk to Lagoa do Fogo the most savage lake of the Azores, where you only can trek along a “levada” through mountains and valleys with breath-taking views. The walk ends at a beach where you can go for a swim or just enjoy the ocean.
Day 7
Hotel Vila Nova- Walk Sete Cidades: Visit the big crater of Sete Cidades with its blue and green twin lakes offering you a beautiful view during the whole walk, not only of the lakes, but also of the big blue ocean. You will descend to the valley and village of Sete Cidades where you also can walk along the lakes. Afternoon transfer to hotel.
Day 8
Departure from hotel and transfer to airport.
